You Can Change Your Own Oil
Does someone else change the oil in your car? That is good, if they are efficient and competent. For some reason, it can be difficult to find people that are competent. Sometimes they can forget to do simple things, like replacing your oil cap. Can you trust them to put the right type and grade of oil in your car? Many of these places have a high turnover in personnel. You might get someone that has never done this work before. There are a lot of good reasons to change your own oil. Here are a few tips to make your oil change smoother.
Costs
You can take your car to the dealer for an oil change. If they do a good job, you do need to do your own oil changes. However, it may be worth it to figure out the cost. Compare the prices of oil and filters.
Your oil may be cheaper at the department store. However, your local auto parts dealer may have oil and filters on sale. They sell more, so the likelihood of a sale is better. You can save money by doing the job yourself. You may not save enough money to buy a new countertop microwave, but it can add up.
Oil
Are you aware of the differences between synthetic and normal motor oil? Do you know what oil is recommended for your car? Can you open your car's hood? If not, you better take your car somewhere for work. Oil changing may not be your forte.
Try getting out your Tiger rice cooker. Make a nice meal for the entire family. Not everyone can do car maintenance.
Parts
If you change your own oil, be certain that you have the right oil. Check with your car's owner manual to be sure. If you need synthetic, do not substitute. In some cases, you may need to use factory oil filters. Aftermarket oil filters may not lubricate properly in some motors.
Make certain that you install a new gasket on your drain plug after every oil change. It is a good idea to buy a new drain plug. Buy several at one time. You may have to get them at your dealer. They should not be expensive.

You may be able to change your own oil. Make sure and use the right oil and filter. Change the drain plug each time. In a year's time, you may save enough money to buy yourself a handheld vacuum or maybe a toaster.
